about us - NADC

What is The Northern Alberta diaconal conference (NADC)?

Imagine for a moment that you have just come back from a board meeting of your local diaconal conference. You are meeting with your fellow deacons and one of the newer ones asks you this question: " What is a diaconal conference anyway?"
"That's a good question," you say as you stall for time to think of the answer. The other deacons catch on to your uncertainty and offer some help.
"Isn't that the conference that we have every October?" offers one deacon.
The chairperson says, "It's a board of representatives from each diaconate that plans training of deacons."
By now you have had a chance to think of an answer. "You're both right. A diaconal conference is both of those things and more."

"A diaconal conference is…"
an organization of deacons within a classis that promotes the work of the deacons and the ministry of mercy of the church.
Your diaconal conference, NADC, is a standing committee of Classis Alberta North and is funded through ministry shares. It has a board made up representatives of the member diaconates and an executive. The board meets 3-4 times per year. The executive meets monthly to plan and supervise. The NADC employs a part-time consultant and administrative assistant, (0.5 FTE), to encourage deacons in their work and to provide regular training.

The NADC is a vehicle for:
· Sharing by deacons about their ministry and learn from each other;
· Training of deacons and other caregivers;
· Ministry in the community
· Linking to ministry partners, domestic and overseas projects
